About the ONLYOFFICE and Box integration

Box is a platform for cloud-based content management, collaboration, and file sharing tools for businesses. ONLYOFFICE offers an official module to integrate ONLYOFFICE Docs with Box and edit office documents in your Box space. You can get the ONLYOFFICE integration module from the official Box app library. The module is distributed under the AGPL-3 License.

Main features

  • Editing and viewing text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Co-editing documents in real-time: two co-editing modes (Fast and Strict), the Track Changes mode, comments, and the built-in chat.
  • Edit form templates in DOCXF.
  • Read and edit PDF files in the ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor.

Supported formats

  • For editing: DOCM, DOCX, DOCXF, DOTM, DOTX, PPSM, PPSX, PPTM, PPTX, XLSM, XLSX, XLTM, XLTX, POTM.
  • For editing with possible data loss: CSV.
  • Conversion to OOXML with possible data loss: DOC, DOT, FODP, FODS, FODT, HTM, MHT, POT, PPS, PPT, XLS, XLT, XML.
  • For viewing only: DJVU, OXPS, XPS.

Connecting ONLYOFFICE Docs to Box

Requirements

  • Installed ONLYOFFICE plugin

Configuring the ONLYOFFICE integration module for Box

To install the ONLYOFFICE application:

  1. Open the Apps section on the left panel.
  2. Search for ONLYOFFICE via the search bar at the top of the page.

  3. Read through the required permissions and click the Add button in the bottom right corner of the window if you agree.
  4. The ONLYOFFICE Docs is now added message will appear. Click the Close button.
  5. When a file is opened for the first time, you will be asked to allow reading files by clicking Grant access to Box in the opened window if you agree.

The app uses the pre-configured tenant of ONLYOFFICE Docs Cloud and doesn't require any additional configuration.

Start using ONLYOFFICE Docs within Box

To create a file:

  1. Open the All Files section.
  2. Click the New+ button in the top right corner.
  3. Choose the required file format.
  4. Enter the file name in the opened window and click the Create button.

You can edit any files in the Box content management system and supported by ONLYOFFICE (see the full list here).

To edit or view a file:

  1. Click the More options button next to the file.
  2. Hover the mouse cursor over the Integrations menu item.
  3. Select the Open with ONLYOFFICE menu item.

  4. If you agree, allow reading files by clicking Okay in the opened window.
  5. Click the Grant access to Box button in the opened Permissions window.

The file will be opened in the corresponding ONLYOFFICE Docs editor in a separate browser tab.
